Lagenandra meeboldii 'Red'

An easy plant related to Cryptocornes, Anubias and Buces, Legenandra meeboldii 'Red' resembles a large Crypt with wide, round leaves that grow from a rhizome similar to Anubias. In good conditions, it grows much faster than most Anubias and even Cryptocornes.

Like other plants in the Aroid family, it is an extremely easy plant to grow and is well suited for beginners and experts alike. It can do very well in a low-tech tank though growth rate will be higher and its red coloration most intense in high tech CO2 injected set-ups. Leaves will also grow much denser in CO2 injected aquariums for a tighter rosette appearance.

QUICK NOTES:

Difficulty: Easy

Size: 10 – 30cm+ in height, 10 – 30cm in rosette width

Native Range: Subcontinental South Asia

Position and Usage: Trypical rosette plant with creeping rhizome. Use as a midground "specimen" or "focal point" plant is most popular. Can also be used as part of the background though its unique appearance will instantly make it a focal point anyways.

Growth Rate: Moderate to Rapid

Lighting: 1/5 – 5/5

Water Conditions: pH of 6 – 8, temperature of 65° to 80°F

CO2: Not required

Propagation: Rhizome division

Special requirements: Good substrate nutrition and space. Root tabs are highly recommended if you are using a new inert substrate. The more space for for its roots, the larger this plant will get.

Emersed Growth: Wonderful plant for terrariums, vivariums and paludariums. Will produce beautiful flowers characteristic of Araceae family plants (Aroids).
