  • Description

Native to Central and South America, Myriophyllum propinquum is commonly known as spiked water milfoil for its unusual spike-like foliage. It is an adaptable species and may be grown fully submersed or emersed, being found in nature as an emergent plant in slow-moving or stagnant bodies of water. Beneath the surface, leaves will appear feathery but dense, extending from a buoyant vertical stem.

With a maximum height of 60cm, this plant will grow to reach your tank’s surface if given the opportunity. Hobbyists may want to prune M. propinquum regularly to avoid unruly growth. Aerial clippings can be used in propagation.

CO2 supplementation will encourage vigorous growth as will nutrient supplementation. Specimens may turn pale or whitish in color when generally nutrient deficient, especially in response to iron deficiency. This is an incredibly hardy variety and must be disposed of properly to avoid the contamination or invasion of natural waterways.
